Vasa Mihich is a renowned Los Angeles based artist known for his sleek, colorful and captivating acrylic sculptures. He is a Senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he has taught color theory for many years.
For nearly 50 years he has been working in acrylics, whether on canvas or through sculpture.
His sculptures, with their different geometric planes suspended in acrylic, are dynamic and endlessly fascinating.
The Olive Orb is an excellent example of Mihich’s masterful approach to sculpting. Resting on a custom clear acrylic stand, the orb reveals a complex color gradient that seem to evolve and change in density, depending on its position or the viewers.
The unique bright olive tones fade seamlessly into a warm coral orange, and from another angle, we find dark olives that blend into even darker tones. Positioning the orb on a new angle reveals a magical evolution, with the colored acrylics creating fascinating edges, appearing as though the orb is clear and cut through with bright lines of color.
This is an intimate and impressive sculpture, yet can be positioned on a desk or console. We are pleased to be offering such a fine early example of Mihich's work.
